I swear at least 42% of my childhood was spent watching Spongebob.

As I've gotten older, I've noticed there was actually a lot of life lessons to be learned. Here's a couple money lessons that can be taken from that animated sponge.

You don’t need a lot of money to be happy

As a fry cook, Spongebob made $30,000 year in Bikini Bottom.

No clue what the housing market's like down there, but Spongebob was able to live in a pretty nice, two story pineapple on a conservative salary.

He enjoyed bothering Squidward and jelly fishing with Patrick. Both are free to do. Actually now that I think about it, I don't remember Spongebob really ever buying anything yet he was always happy.

Envy ruins success‍

How many times did Plankton try getting his grimy little hands on the Krabby Patty secret formula?

His life mission was to steal the formula as he envied the success the Krusty Krab was having. Rather than focus on his energy on the Chum Bucket, all his time was spent worrying about others. He neglected his own business and in result, never found success.

This is just like trying to Keep Up with the Joneses.

When you spend time worrying about other people and what they have, you tend to neglect your own finances and can never get ahead. By focusing on your own situation, you can begin to make improvements and work towards your goals - regardless of what anyone else is doing.
