Last Sunday, I wrote about ways I was going to try and reduce my screen time and promised an update:
Twitter screen time this week: 9 hours and 13 minutes
Still pretty high in my opinion, but an improvement of almost 5 hours.
Here are my thoughts on the strategies I used:
Black and white screen: Definitely worked, but once I turned it off the first time during the week I never went and changed it back. Will use it again if I find myself struggling.
Removing apps from the home screen: Wildly effective - other than 9 hours on twitter, all other socials were under an hour.
Leaving my phone at home: My favorite strategy - it's so much more peaceful going on walks or doing things without a phone.
Conclusion: I think I've accepted the fact that my twitter screen time is always going to be high. Most of my "networking" and online presence is on twitter so I think the few hours I spend on Twitter each week are worth it. However, I'd like to be more intentional with the time I spend on here to get the most out of it.
So this week, I'm going to try and have more specific times that I check social -- have you ever time-blocked your social media activity?
